We hate to start with a bummer, but….

Unfortunately, everyone’s favorite cheddar bay biscuits are high in carbs and are not suitable for a low carb or Keto diet.

And, you probably already knew that. Since bread is typically off the table on this diet.

So before you head over to the restaurant, you’ll need to ask yourself honestly – can you go to Red Lobster without eating a cheddar bay biscuit?

For many, this will be near impossible.

But, if you are one of the very few with extraordinary will power, then you can give it a go.

If so, then you’ll be able to enjoy some fabulous low carb options, provided that you choose wisely.

Luckily, there are recipes for low carb cheddar bay biscuits, so you can still enjoy some as part of your homemade seafood dinners.

We love to make Red Lobster inspired menus at home quite often and you’ll be glad to know the menus are so easy.

You can give those a try and make some of our homemade low carb Red Lobster copycat recipes that we’ll share below.

Plus, the good news is…

Red Lobster is extremely keto friendly with many perfect choices for someone following a low carb diet.

Most of the shellfish and fish recipes are boiled, baked, grilled and steamed with a butter based sauce. There are plenty of dinner arrangements with seafood and steaks like sirloin, NY strip and filet mignon that are of course low in carbs.

Just take care to avoid the usual suspects of rice, potatoes, pasta and bread, as well as deep fried breaded entrees like fish and chips, popcorn shrimp, breaded shrimp, etc.

Similarly, you’ll want to avoid anything sweet and sugary or with a syrup.

Low Carb Starters at Red Lobster

Most of the starters are high carb but if you’re selective, you can find some keto friendly appetizers that should work within your allowable carb limits. Some of our favorites are:

Shrimp Cocktail with Seafood Sauce

Your best bet for low carb appetizers would be shrimp cocktail with a little seafood sauce.

There’s even a new Tiger Shrimp Cocktail starter with Samu sauce.

Depending on the sugar content in the Samu and shrimp cocktail sauces, you may need to enjoy the sauces sparingly.

In Red Lobster Shrimp Cocktail sauce, there are 11g of Carbs in one serving, as well as 45 Calories, 0g Fat and 0g Protein.

Escargot Stuffed Mushrooms

A classic Red Lobster starter, escargot stuffed mushrooms in a white wine sauce and topped with cheese, make a lovely beginning to a seafood dinner menu.

We make a copycat version of these with garlic butter sauce and they are super tasty as well as low carb.

These delights are perfect for those watching their carbs.

When you love scallops and you love bacon, just put them together and you’ve got a tantalizing appetizer!

Crab Queso

Red Lobster crab queso could be a suitable appetizer if you swap the tortilla chips for other dippers such as carrot and celery sticks, broccoli or other vegetables.

If you’re making it at home, see our Red Lobster Crab Queso copycat recipe but be sure to serve with vegetable dippers and low carb chips if you can find them.

Low Carb Main Courses at Red Lobster

For many of the suggested keto friendly meals, you’ll need to ensure you’ve swapped out any potato, pasta or rice side dishes for low carb ones like steamed or sauteed vegetables and salads.

  • Surf and Turf Maine Lobster – sub a vegetable side dish for the potatoes.
  • Grilled Lobster Shrimp and Salmon – you’ll need to switch the potato and rice for some vegetables.
  • Ultimate Feast – sub a vegetable side dish for the potato and exchange breaded shrimp with a dish without breading like garlic shrimp or scallops.
  • Lobster Lover’s Dream – just sub a vegetable side dish for the potato.
  • Salmon New Orleans with Shrimp – just order with a vegetable side dish instead of potato.
  • Red Lobster Shrimp Scampi – is a great choice for a low carb meal as long as it’s served with vegetable sides and no pasta, rice or potatoes.
  • Red Lobster Endless Shrimp – Shrimp choices without breading or pasta are preferred.
  • Red Lobster Crab Legs – steamed snow or Bairdi crab legs as part of Crabfest Creations or a daily special is a great choice! Again, remember to choose sides accordingly, without any pasta, potato or rice. Or a Crab Your Way dinner, without the potatoes is a great selection.
  • Crab and Sirloin Oscar – Crab topped sirloin steak is a fabulous entree during Crabfest.
  • Shrimp and Tilapia – You’ll love shrimp and tilapia with some low carb vegetable side dishes.
  • Tilapia and Scallops – with the right sides, this is a great entree for low carb diners.

Here’s our copycat recipe for Salmon New Orleans and Shrimp that we love to enjoy at home! It’s easy to make – just ignore the part about serving with lobster mash and instead serve with a Caesar side salad or another vegetable.

It’s quite a meal in itself, especially with the side of green beans.

Our copycat Red Lobster Shrimp Scampi is shown below. We love to serve it with Brussel sprouts and seasoned broccoli when we make this at home.

Some wild rice pilaf is shown, but you won’t want to include that in a specifically low carb or keto menu. Although wild rice is one of the lowest carb rice options among others and you might be comfortable with a small serving.

Low Carb Side Dishes at Red Lobster

Your best options for keto friendly side dishes are steamed vegetables and sauteed and seasoned dishes like garlic green beans, seasoned broccoli and Brussel sprouts (plain).

Depending on what you order as a main course, you might like to upgrade your side dish to a lobster tail, garlic shrimp, scallops or some crab legs. Why not go all out, especially if it’s a special occasion.

You could get a vegetable side dish as well. There are really so many variations of what you can choose for your low carb menu.

Red Lobster Garlic Green Beans

We love to make garlic green beans at home. They are so easy, flavorful and perfect with any Red Lobster main course.

At the restaurant, they’re a great side to have with your entrees.

Red Lobster Seasoned Broccoli

Seasoned broccoli is a classic standby and a popular side dish for many of Red Lobster’s entrees.

You’ll love it since it is incredibly tasty with a little butter sauce that is likely to be on your plate somewhere.

Red Lobster Brussel Sprouts

The Brussel sprouts are a great side dish option, provided they are made without the sweet sauce drizzled over and with the fried onions omitted. They are pictured with wild rice pilaf below, but you might prefer to skip the rice or keep the serving small.

You’ll need to enjoy them in their plain form or with a butter based sauce. However, they’re excellent when made without the toppings as well.

Red Lobster House Salad

The house style salad is perfect but you’ll need to check the content of the dressings. Your best bet for salad dressing is oil and vinegar styles (vinaigrette) or ones lower in carbs, like Caesar, Ranch or Blue Cheese.

Tip: Ask for the salad to be served on the side instead of on the salad. That way you can control the amount you use.

Red Lobster Salad Dressings (Listed from Lowest to Highest Carbs)

You may need to be selective with salad dressings.

From the list below, you may need to stick to one of the top three (Caesar, Ranch or Blue Cheese).

Even then, you might also want to use less than the typical serving amount.

Low Carb Beverages at Red Lobster

Your best bet for a low carb beverage is probably good old fashioned water with a lemon wedge.

You might wish to order coffee or tea without sugar and perhaps with a little cream.

Low Carb Desserts at Red Lobster

There aren’t any low carb desserts at Red Lobster that we know of. To be honest, we would probably skip desserts at most restaurants.

We don’t often have any room left for desserts anyways, by the time we get through the appetizers, mains and sides.

However, if you really want one and are perhaps willing to share the dish with a loved one, then the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake could be a lower carb option when compared to the other desserts like Chocolate Brownie Explosion or Chocolate Cake.

Maybe it’s a cheat day or something like that, and you don’t mind going a little over capacity, then it might be ok to indulge. Otherwise, you’ll need to steer clear of desserts unfortunately.

Although, with such savory appetizer and dinner options, we’re sure you’ll be more than satisfied with your experience!
